The new Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri has assumed duty.
He formerly took over the mantle of leadership from the Deputy Provost of the College, Dr. Pac Ordu (maben, JP) who has been the Provost of the institution on Acting capacity since 1st April, 2018 following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Provost, Dr. Bassey Ubong.
Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri, whose appointment was approved by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, for a term of four (4) years, takes effect from May 17, 2018.
Born on 28th August, 1960 Dr. Ikenyiri hails from Obrikom Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State and is the 7th Provost/Chief Executive Officer of the institution established in 1988 (30 years ago).
The new Provost who joined the services of the College in 1999 and rose to the rank of chief lecturer in year 2011, has served the College in various capacities which includes: member, College Management and Academic Board, Head of Department Educational Psychology, Coordinator Guidance and Counseling Unit, Coordinator Students Industrial Works Experience (SIWES), Dean, School of Education and Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance of the College, among other standing and Adhoc committee he headed.
He obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) History/Religious from the then Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt in affiliation with University of Ibadan 1981-1984, B.Ed Psychology, Guidance and Counseling 1987-1991, M.Ed, Guidance and Counseling 1982-1995, Ph.D Guidance and Counseling 2003-2007, all from the famous University of Port Harcourt.
On Community Services, he was the Secretary Obrikom Students Union 1979-1980 and later served as President of the Union from 1980-1983, President, Obrikom Graduates Association 1994-2000, Chairman, Obrikom Community Development Committee (CDC) 2001-2003 and at the same period doubled as Chairman, Usomini Group Community Development Committee.
He, also served as member, Rivers State Omoku Gas Turbine Monitoring and Implementation Committee 2002-2004, member, Obrikom Constitution Drafting Committee 2008-2010, Secretary, Obrikom Committee of Eminent Persons and Professionals 2011, Chairman, Men Christian Association of St. Peter’s (Anglican) Church, Obrikom Deanery 2013-Date, Deputy Chancellor, Obrikom Unity Club (OUC) 2010-2013 and thereafter he was elected the Chancellor of the Club from 2013-2016.
The new Provost who belongs to many professional bodies including, Colleges of Education Academic Union (COEASU), Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists, Counseling Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Primary and Teacher Education Association and Teachers Registration Council of Nigerian (TRCN), among others.
He has over 40 publications in National and International Academic Journals presented within Local and International, Ten Conference papers and also attended over thirty (30) conferences and workshops, both local and international.
Dr. Ikenyiri, a member of Anglican Communion is happily married with Children and grand children.
Taking over mantle of leadership at a colourful ceremony attended by staff, students and friends of the College, the highly elated Dr. Ikenyiri thanked the Almighty God, President Muhammadu Buhari, the two Ministers of Education, members of the College Governing Council headed by Professor Aminu S. Maikalu, the Executive Secretary NCCE, Professor Dappa-Aliyu Mohammadu and others for his appointment and promised to discharge his duties with utmost diligence to move the College forward.
He therefore, solicits for support, co-operation and team work from all members of the College Community.
Earlier, while handing over, the then Acting Provost, Dr. Pac Ordu (Maben JP) thanked staff, students and friends of the College for their support and co-operation accorded him during his 65 days in office as Acting Provost of the Institution and pray that such support and co-operation be extended to his successor, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri.
The colourful ceremony was graced by two members of the College Governing Council, Prof. Chris Ahiakwo and Chief Maxwell Ahiakwo, principal officers, members of management, staff, students and friends of the College.
Meanwhile, messages of congratulations have been pouring on Dr. Ikenyiri over his appointment by President Buhari, as Provost/Chief Executive Officer of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State and wishing him a peaceful and fruitful tenure in Office.
