An umbrella body under the aegis of Association of Anambra State Development Unions, AASDU, has elected its new Executive officers to pioneer the affairs of the body.
AASDU is an Association that comprised of all the town unions of Anambra State origin functioning in Rivers State, with each town union members represented at AASDU by 5 delegates led by its chairman.
Speaking in an interview with National Momentum, the newly elected President of AASDU, Comrade Sunny Chidube, described the election that brought him into office as free, fair and credible.
He commended the immediate past President of the Association for his resolve to step-down for a peaceful transition of power and the ELECO chairman, Mr. Ikechukwu Otti, for the peaceful conduct of the election.
On his acceptance and emergence as the new President of AASDU, Comrade Chidube attributed his acceptance by the people to his antecedents and reach out to some town unions, where he engaged them with discussions on his manifesto for Ndi Anambra.
Responding on his agenda for the union, Comrade Chidube assured that his administration, with the support of his Exco members would ensures the review of AASDU membership and others, the recognition of the body in Anambra, Rivers State and the nation at large, organize annual Anambra Hall of Fame and Award Night, recapture all aims and objectives of AASDU, protects and defend AASDU members from intimidation and discrimination, among others.
He further affirmed to provide periodic human capital development, facilitate admissions into universities, provision of accessible and affordable quality health care delivery services, review of Association constitution and to organize Anambra Day celebration, where the rich and cultural heritage of Ndi Anambra, among others would be showcased.
The former Region 6 (South-East) chairperson of the Lions Club and President, Anambra North Youth Association, used the medium to call on all and sundry in Anambra State to ensure they vote candidates of their choice during the November, 2017 guber election.
Comrade Chidube, the current President, National Youth Movement of Nigeria, who supported the call for the restructuring of Nigeria, said it would be the best option for now, pending the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra as being agitated by IPOB, which quest he said may lead to referendum if restructuring of the country fails.
According to him: “Let us join to encourage politics that is based on issues, and value addition as against our present practice of expandable bread and butter for the stomach, through which we mortgage our future and the future of our children with pea nuts,” Chidube advised.
AASDU President, who disclosed that the union’s meeting holds every last Sunday of the month, urged the people of Anambra, resident in Rivers State, to come and be part of the Association and endeavour to attend the inauguration of the new Exco on the 27th of August, 2017, under the chairmanship of AASDU BOT Chairman, HRM Igwe (Sir) Benneth Emekwa, Okebo ll of Umueri, at Awka Town Hall, by Timothy lane, Rumuola, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The newly elected Executive members of AASDU from the three senatorial districts of Anambra North, Anambra Central and Anambra South include: Comrade Suuny Chidube as the President (Umueri); Chief Okey Nwanna, 1st Vice President (Awka); Chief Bestman Ike, 2nd Vice President (Dikelionwu); Ezike Chinwendu, Secretary (Amichi); Odili Obiajulu, Assistant Secretary (Nteje); Chekwube Okeafor, Financial Secretary (Umuawulu); Bernard Udoba, Assistant Secretary (Anam); Obie Onyekuba, Publicity Secretary (Isiagu) and Chidozie Nnoruga (Ekwulummili).
Others include: Chinedu Ofiali (Utu) as the Treasurer, Ignatius Okafor, Provost 1 (Ifiteagwari); Ugochukwu Aniche, Provost ll (Azia); Obi Areh, Dos (Awkuzu); and Sunday Ezeofor, Assistant Dos (Aguluezechukwu).
Some of the appointments that were to be made include: Legal Adviser 1 Legal Adviser ll, Ex-officio 1, Ex-Officio 2 and Ex-officio 3.
