In celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Rivers State and Children’s Day, the Rainbow Book Club has organized a writing competition titled “THE RIVERS STATE OF MY DREAM.’”
The event, which was held at Alliance Francaise, on the 26th of May, 2017 was attended by over 100 students from 20 primary and secondary schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Shortly after the essay competition was the reading of a book titled “17 Secrets Of High-Flying Students by Fela Durotoye. However, the session was moderated by Rainbow Book Club founder and Project Director, UNESCO World Book Capital 2014, Mrs. Koko Kalango.
On stage to discuss the book with Mrs. Kalango were Emmanuella Wokoma from Baptist High School, Oreke Onyekachi from Kenneth Commercial & Technical College, Praise Seimode from Archdeacon Brown Education Centre, Wike Shalom from Olivet Heights International School, Isaac Obiazi of Port Harcourt International School, and Sobowale Excellence from Model Junior Secondary.
Responding, some of the students expressed their satisfaction on the motivational, and inspirational aspects of the book, while some of them emphasized on its interesting and funny nature.
Contributing on issues that impede students from flying high, some students from the audience identified social media and the lack of love for a particular teacher as some of the challenges. The students in the meantime acknowledged that the book provided solutions to the challenges.
